From our President

Welcome to the Fort Bend Junior Service League website!

I am extremely honored to serve as the 2010-2011 President of the Fort Bend Junior Service League as we celebrate our 10-year anniversary. Our story began in 2001 with 24 women who shared a vision of promoting volunteerism in Fort Bend County. Today, the League's mission is carried out by over 250 adult members, as well as 100+ youth members through the Fort Bend Teen Service League, a mentoring project designed to promote philanthropy and community service in teenage girls. The League's Sustaining Members continue to serve the League and the community through their leadership and participation in a variety of service projects. Whether FBJSL members are providing direct service to one of our core placements, working on one of our many committees, organizing one of our fundraising projects or mentoring young women, our members will collectively donate more than 20,000 volunteer hours this year.

In FBJSL's inaugural year, the League hosted two new fundraisers: the Sugar Plum Market and Sterling Ball raised a cumulative total of $35,500. Over the past 9 years, through the League's many projects and events, we have contributed over $1.4 million to various charities in Fort Bend County. Our accomplishments could not be sustained without the commitment and dedication of our valued members, for they are the backbone of our organization. FBJSL also relies on the generous support of our community partners, including corporate and individual donors, local businesses, non-profit organizations, event patrons, and various others who help the League make a difference year after year.

FBJSL achieved many new and exciting milestones last year:

  • The Sugar Plum Market raised a record breaking amount of funds;
  • Our cookbook Treasures from the Bend, Rich in History & Flavor received the prestigious 2009 Tabasco Award;
  • Our talented teen girls hosted their first fundraising event, Glitter & Gloss;
  • The League was honored by the Fort Bend Community Partners Rainbow Room with the 2009 Lasting Impression Award; and
  • We chose to further expand our service opportunities in the coming year by adding 3 new core placements.

FBJSL's story began 10 years ago, but we have written only the first chapter! It is my hope that the League will continue to flourish by making strides that positively impact Fort Bend County through our service projects and charitable endeavors.
