FBJSL Scholarship Programs

FBJSL established a scholarship program in 2008 for local teens and women who desire to further their education. FBJSL awards a Volunteer Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a female high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in volunteerism and community service. The New Beginnings Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, is awarded to a Fort Bend County woman who has had a break in her education and is returning to school, desiring to improve her career opportunities by furthering her education.

In 2010, FBJSL was pleased to present Briana Gifford and Gabrielle Webster with college scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each for their outstanding volunteer efforts in Fort Bend County. The recipients were chosen from a pool of young women representing public, private and parochial schools throughout Fort Bend County. While there were many outstanding applicants, the winners truly stood out as leaders in volunteer community service.

Briana Gifford of Kempner High School contributed over 400 hours of volunteer service to the Fort Bend community. She was a major contributor in the creation of the recycling program at her high school. Through her efforts, the school was recognized for lowering energy usage. Her leadership roles include Student Body President as well as being a representative on the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council, Keep Sugar Land Beautiful Youth Board and FBISD Youth Advisory Board. Ms. Gifford's community service and leadership roles have earned her the respect of her peers and staff at Kempner High School.

Gabrielle Webster of Foster High School earned over 230 hours of volunteer service in the Fort Bend community. She founded the 2009 Foster High School Race for the Cure and held key leadership roles in the Foster High School Drama and Debate Tournament from 2007-2010. She also served as a senior member of the UM ARMY to help rebuild and repair local homes of the disadvantaged. Ms. Webster's honors for 2010 include the National Achievement Scholarship Program Outstanding Participant Award and the National Forensic League All-American Award.
