Treasures from the Bend,

Rich in History and Flavor

Presented by:
St. Luke's Sugar Land Hospital

Fort Bend Junior Service League has partnered with St. Luke's Sugar Land Hospital to present the League's second cookbook publication, Treasures from the Bend, Rich in History and Flavor. Named the "Official Cookbook of Fort Bend County" by the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and winner of the 2009 Tabasco Award for the Southwest Region, Treasures from the Bend features both historical and flavorful treasures. This beautiful, hardbound book highlights various sites within the county and includes a selection of over 275 recipes, including some from the community's favorite restaurants and esteemed residents. Some of the historical treasures that have been photographed for the book include George Ranch Historical Park in Richmond, The Freedom Tree in Missouri City, and Lakeview Auditorium in Sugar Land.

Proceeds from this project benefit Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels (FBS), a vital program in the community that serves more than 1,000 meals each day in Fort Bend County. Since 1974, FBS has been committed to helping seniors remain independent by enhancing their quality of life through comprehensive services and programs which include meals on wheels, congregate meals, transportation, recreation, case management and information and referrals. Senior citizens 60+ years of age who are unable to safely prepare their own meals are eligible to receive hot nutritious meals at home, six days per week. Each of these programs and services enable area seniors to remain in their own home with dignity and continue to be part of the community for as long as possible. The Fort Bend Junior Service League is honored to assist this worthy organization in their efforts.
