Membership
The Fort Bend Junior Service League is a diverse group of women that have membership privileges as either a Provisional, Active, MOPS, Professional, Associate or Sustaining member.
Our Provisional membership is composed of women, ages 23 - 49, who are engaged in complying with the attendance, service, and financial requirements for admission to Active membership. FBJSL holds informational meetings about the League in the spring and summer in order to welcome a new Provisional class each fall.
The requirements for Provisional Membership presently include: payment of dues, a one-time registration fee and other financial obligations of the League, attendance at the Provisional Luncheon, performing six hours of volunteer service a month on a designated placement, volunteering four hours of service on the Sugar Plum Market, volunteering two hours of service on the evening of the Charity Ball, volunteering two hours of service at either a Cookbook event or Glitter & Gloss (hosted by Fort Bend Teen Service League), and attending at least six Provisional and general membership meetings.
Our Active membership is composed of women, ages 23 - 49, who have completed all Provisional membership requirements. An Active member with children under the age of five may request the Mother of Preschoolers (MOPS) status, which requires fewer service hours and increased dues. An Active member who works 30 or more hours per week, or who is a student taking 12 or more semester hours, may request the Professional status that also requires fewer service hours and increased dues. Actives are voting members of the League and are eligible to hold office.
The requirements for Active Membership presently include: payment of dues and other financial obligations of the League, performing six hours of volunteer service a month on a designated placement, volunteering four hours of service on one of our fundraising events, and attending the required number of general meetings in accordance with years of service in the League.
An Active member with children under the age of five may request the Mother of Preschoolers (MOPS) status which requires fewer service hours and increased dues. This status will be chosen when yearly placements are selected. Her children's birthdates are required, and she shall revert back to full Active status when her youngest child reaches the age of five and starts kindergarten.
An Active member who works 30 or more hours per week, or who is a student taking 12 or more semester hours, may request the Professional status which requires fewer service hours and increased dues. This status will be chosen when yearly placements are selected. Her employer or class schedule is required, and she shall revert back to full Active status when she is no longer employed 30 or more hours per week or is no longer a student taking 12 or more semester hours.
Members under the age of 50 who have completed ten years of service in the League are eligible to apply for Associate member status. This status will be chosen when yearly placements are selected. Associate members may serve on a designated placement, but are not required to do so. They are voting members of the League and may hold an elected or appointed League position. Associate members are responsible for payment of dues and other financial obligations of the League and volunteering four hours of service on one of our fundraising events. They do not have an attendance requirement for meetings. Associate members may resume Active status.
Our Sustaining members are women 50 years of age or older. Our Sustaining group currently welcomes new members twice a year, in August and January. Sustainers are responsible for paying dues and other financial obligations of the League. Sustainers are voting members of the League; however, they are restricted from holding office.
